This is a very special project for Whiteside Customs, in memory of our dearly departed friend James. James Orr was disabled from a childhood injury and confined to a wheelchair. His life was tragically ended in 2003 by a house fire that was set by his then-wife, who is now serving life in prison.
James was known for his commitment to his family and his career; however, most of his close friends knew him because of his passion for cars. If James wasn't spending time with his family or working, chances are you would find him at the drag strip racing his 2002 Camaro SS. His Camaro was outfitted with hand controls so that it was possible for him to pursue his passion despite his disability. His favorite cartoon was Speed Racer, hence the project name.
This restoration was commissioned in July 2010 by his mother Marian Poole to honor his memory. Whether you knew James or not, know this: every person who met James was better for it. We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to build the car that James dreamed of.
